BNA Wandle Day and AGM 2011

Former Snuff Mill, Morden Hall Park

This location was perfect for BNA's "Wandle Wildlife Day and AGM" as being in London it has good access from the rest of the country, whilst providing excellent and historic habitat to be explored. It has rightly been claimed as "a green oasis in the heart of suburbia", it has 125 acres (50ha) and is owned by the National Trust. It is a fascinating mix of habitats, former deer parkland with meadows, marshland and woodland through which the River Wandle meanders with a complex of waterways that arose to service the former Snuff Mills. The Environment Centre (TQ262686) is housed in a former Snuff Mill. There are mill ponds, weir, a lake, islands and the river is crossed with numerous bridges, including one in elegant white ironwork.
